I just read that a 17th teenager has committed suicide in Bridgend in the last year. Isn't this just totally bizarre? What is going on there?

  1. ALIENS!

  2. Have you been there?

  3. It is very sad, to hear about these horrific suicides in Bridgend. I feel so sorry for the parents.

  4. Maybe it's like a wave of mass hysteria. Some kids that might not normally have gone that far may have been caught up in the hysteria and pushed themselves that little bit further over the edge.I'd like to see some sensible reporting now re the actual statistics compared nationwide so they can calm this down a bit and hopefully deter future suicides.

  5. must be boredom, or lack of jobs or drugs

  6. Have any of these people making jokes about Bridgend actually been there?  It's a nice place and not depressing in the slightest.  My father and Stepmother live there and my 18 year old half brother, the whole place is in deep shock a the moment, and parents going through absolute h**l, for once can't people show some compassion?

Sorry, I didn't answer your question, I'm just getting wound up at the stupidity of some people on N & E tonight.

  7. i have no idea,.. i don't think anyone has..

such a sad time for so many families..

  8. It is awful but consider the population of the wider area, Glamorgan has some 1.7 million people.

The UK average suicide rate for a population that size would actually be 144.5 per year (8.5 per 100,000) so on the scale of things 17 isn't a huge number, though they do seem to be concentrated in a tight area.

  9. it is so sad what happened there, but its pretty obvious why there is so many suicides among teens. with drugs, alcohol, and fame its just gotten outta hand, it needs to stop

  10. There is not enough one-to one services for children, the subjext is getting brushed under teh carpet by police and other services, schools should take action and maybe have a assembly telling kids not to do it.

Often the kids see their friends face in the local paper and want to be there too.  Not thinking about whatever is needed.  All kids are fame hungry.

  11. A terrible tragedy

  12. try a holiday  there , you would want to kill yourself ha ha

  13. They should be investigating the water supply - these days it is full of toxins-perhaps other forms of toxins in the environment.

  14. Going by the Media Hype around each suicide, plus the fact that each teenager has a myspace or similar web coverage site, which is then bombarded with sympathy messages from friends, I can only imagine they desire fame, be it through death.

If it isn't, that then a cult............
