Aradhana: I am a Indian too and my ancestors were Hindu Saraswat Brahmins. I thank God for them they accepted Christ and eternal salvation. Jesus teaches love and humility. That is what we do. Perhaps you should read the first answer. You will get a good picture of what Christians are made of. We only know to love and save lives. It is the Hindus that are on a killing spree of the minorities in India.

  1. "Religion Not the Crying Need of India

Christianity must always be ready for good criticism, and I think that you will hardly mind if I make a little criticism. Christian brethren of America, you are so fond of sending out missionaries to save the souls of heathens. I ask you: what have you done and are doing to save their bodies from starvation? In India, there are 300 million men and women living on an average of a little more than 50 cents a month. I have seen them living for years upon wild flowers. During the terrible famines, thousands died from hunger but the missionaries did nothing. They come and offer life but only on condition that the Hindus become Christians, abandoning the faith of their fathers and forefathers. Is it right? There are hundreds of asylums, but if the Muslims or the Hindus go there, they are kicked out. There are thousands of asylums erected by Hindus where anybody is received. There are hundreds of churches that have been erected with the assistance of the Hindus, but no Hindu temples for which a Christian has given a penny.

Brethren of America, you erect churches all through India, but the crying evil in the East is not religion. They have religion enough, but it is bread that the suffering millions of burning India cry out for with parched throats. What they want is bread, but they are given a stone. It is an insult to a starving people to offer them religion; it is an insult to a starving man to teach him metaphysics. Therefore, if you wish to illustrate the meaning of "brotherhood," treat the Hindus more kindly, even though they are Hindus and are faithful to their religion. Send missionaries to them to teach them how better to earn a piece of bread and not to teach them metaphysical nonsense.

[At this point, Swami Vivekananda said that he was not feeling too well that day and so wished to be excused. But, we read in the newspaper report, "there were thunders of applause and cries of ‘Go on,’" so Vivekananda continued:]

The earlier speaker said something about the miserable and ignorant priests in China. The same may be said of the priests in India. I am one of those monks who have been described as beggarly. That is the pride of my life. I am proud in that sense to be Christ-like. I eat what I have today and think not of tomorrow. "Behold the lilies of the field; they toil not, neither do they spin." The Hindu carries that out literally. Many gentlemen present in Chicago sitting on this platform can testify that for the last twelve years I never knew whence my next meal would come. I am proud to be a beggar for the sake of the Lord. The idea in the East is that to preach or teach anything for the sake of money is low and vulgar, but to teach the name of the Lord for pay is such degradation as would cause the priest to lose caste and be spat upon.

There is one suggestion in the earlier speaker’s paper that is true: If the priests of China and India were organized, there is an enormous amount of potential energy that could be used for regeneration of society and humanity. I endeavored to organize it in India but failed for lack of money. It may be I shall get the help I want in America.

I came here to seek help for my impoverished people and I fully realized how difficult it was to get help for heathens from Christians in a Christian land. I have heard so much of this land of freedom, of liberty and freedom of thought, that I am not discouraged. I thank you, ladies and gentlemen." - Swami Vivekananda.

  2. In India, the caste system is very strong. There are people who are known as backward classes, high caste , low caste , dalit, untouchable etc. These people were ill treated and ignored for very long by the influential. Even today these caste systems exist.

The violence in Orissa is taking place in a place called Kandhamal which is a tribal area and a backward area where all of the population are below the poverty line.

Christian missionaries have preached the gospel in these areas and have converted a small percent of the population living there to Christianity. They have built orphanages, churches and small schools to uplift the living conditions over there.

After seeing that peoples lives were changing in these communities who were always ignored and not allowed to grow by society, people have started to become jealous and did not want to see these poor people be uplifted in society.

Hence in order to stop this, rumours of people being forced to convert to Christianity were spread all over, so that Christian missionaries would be targetted by the majority Hindu community and would flee the area.

They started saying that people were given money and goods to convert to Christianity, whereas the truth is they converted on hearing the gospel message. No tribal has become a rich man by converting to Christianity. They are still poor, but believe in Jesus. The majority are still Hindus in that area.

There are organisations such as the VHP RSS and Bajrang Dal that are spearheading these rumours of people being forced to convert to Christianity and are attacking them. One of the leaders of the VHP was gunned down few days back. It was by the Naxals and Maoists who are not part of the Christian community, but still in order to attack Christians, rumours were again spread that the VHP leader was gunned down by Christians. They have targetted all Christian homes, churches, orphanages and schools in that area and burned them down and have burned people from the Christian community alive.

To all my Hindu brothers and sisters who are reading this , I have this to say...

Visit ISKCON, Sathya Sai Baba ashram,Mata Amritananda ashram,Ravi Shankar ashram and various famous Hindu priests places, you would find so many foreigners and Indians who were Christians and have converted to Hinduism. They have liked the people and the message being taught over there and converted to Hinduism. Similarly if a Hindu likes the Christian message he is free to convert.....If we want , then even we can say that forced conversion of Christians is taking place in the various ashrams in India, but I dont want to make this an issue. This is their personal choice.I do not believe in spreading hatred since Jesus taught to live in peace with everyone and to forgive ones enemies and have love for GOD.....

Hindus are actually peace loving people. My best friends are Hindus and we live happily as neighbours. The problem is with the extremist parties.

No one knows who killed the Swami Laxmanand. But who has given the right to kill innocent people. Catch the culprit and hang him. Why kill innocent people.

When missionary Graham Staines and his sons were burned alive in 1999 by Hindus in Orissa , were any Hindus killed in retaliation. Not a single Hindu or temple was attacked. Only protests were held and the culprit was caught. This is how it should be.

People have pasted links to various websites, to prove their points. To counter that even I can mention that in any popular search engine website you type "attacks on Christians in India" and you will get hundreds of websites showing attacks on Christian institutions and murders of Christians.

Get proof and punish the guilty person. Spreading hatred and killing innocent people is not the solution.

  3. because they dont belong there in fact they don't belong anywhere

  4. It has come to my attention that most christians in the US do not really understand that a vast number of missionaries representing the many, many christian religions are roaming round in every country.  I think that christians ought to think how other people in their country who already have a religion might feel about you and your religion always trying to pull them into a religion they do not want.  I am not Japanese, but I have been stopped many times on the streets in Japan by persons who are from the US and asking me to let them explain about Jesus, and that I should come to their church.  That is annoying and violation of one's private life.  Now if an American feels offense to such pandering, then how do you think natives of other countries must feel.  But it seems that christian do not care how others feel as long as they can pull yet another unwilling, uninteresting persons into their church.  Can't you people just do your religion and leave others out of it?  If a person wanted to get into a religion they will find a way on their own, and they need no help.  And, stop using bread as bait to lure unsuspecting persons into your traps.  That's disgusting.

  5. Christianity is the alien religion, therefore it must suffer in silence. Unfortunate, but factual.

  6. 61 years after indipendence.Every where there are RESERVATIONS. No Indians ,only certain races backed up by full political suport. Thanks for their VOTE BANK.

  7. Thats unfortunate state where hindus are getting too much aggressive this days thnx to political parties heads who themselves give hatred speeches.

  8. Because the Hindu activists believe that their religion is better. Seems a bit familiar in concept, though (think, what happens in the U.S. when a Christian child converts to Satanism? What do the parents try to do?)

  9. This is not even half the truth..just because media is presenting things in wrong way...and Hindus are not in demonstrations; you are saying this

we dont hate Christians..we are against the treachery, force and atrocity of the Christian missionaries..we just want to not be tortured

its fine you Christians dont like us or our religion but why are you not letting us breathe freely in our own land, why are you becoming enemies of our religion, lives and culture?

already we have borne Muslim cruelty for centuries and now its your people who wont let us breath freely in our land...You have all reservations etc here , common Hindu giving respect and equality to you and politicians l*****g your feet for vote bank..then why still you trouble Hindus and then cry too that they are hating and oppressing you?

If you are so unhappy here..why dont you leave and why you send your missionaries in numbers every year?? Because you are having your cake and eating it too besides snatching others share too

Why you Catholics give money to your Church? So that your people can force, bribe and maniplulate and kill other races in developing countries?

  10. Christian trying to convert them thus caused friction.Muslim have not try to convert them but still caused friction but not as bad. So they are the trouble makers.

  11. Yeah, I seen a report of that on the 700 club.
