why sky appears to be dark instead blue to astronauts?

  1. Te sky appears blue due to the "filtering" effects of our atmosphere.  Also, our atmosphere scatters the light, making the colors fairly constant across the whole sky.

    Astronauts work ABOVE the atmosphere.  There is no light scattering and no filtering because there is no atmosphere (air)!

    So the sky appears black, except for the visible stars.
