Why stay VEGETARIAN? help me vegetarians!?

i have not eaten meat in 4 months and i feel great but my mom tries to get me to eat veggies that she;s cooked in meats!!! but she's wrong Right?? i never eat it and she yells at me?? i also have no reason to be veggie.... and ppl ask me all the time and when the find out iv only done it for 4 months they say oh your not gonna last!!!!!! how long should it be until im requried a real veggie like a year ???? im sceared to go on vacation to my great aunts house because im sceared she's gonna make me eat meat.. my dads family allready tried like 2 months ago............ what should i do!!!! can u guys gimme some reasons to be veggie.. OH and have any ppl tried to eat meat after goin a while without it?? what happens do you get sick???

  1. I'm so sorry your family isn't very accepting of your choice. That is a hard situation... Don't listen to those people, you are a real vegetarian now, and I'm sure you can last. Ignore them, and if they don't eventually learn to respect your decision, just know you are doing it for yourself and your belief, not for anyone else. I was told that same thing when I was just starting but I've been going at it for several years now (since around 12). Personally I am a vegetarian because I think the way animals are raised and killed is brutal and immoral, so I am standing up for animal rights. Also the meatpacking industries are huge benefactors of pollution and global warming, I don't like supporting these huge, corrupted corporations. They waste water and use grain inefficiently. Meat is also very unappealing to me, and especially now I can't imagine eating it. Another reason I've heard is to get healthy.

    My best friend has never eaten meat before, she was raised by her parents as a vegetarian and while on vacation she was accidentally fed meat. Because her system wasn't able to digest it she got violently ill and threw it up. It most likely would not happen to you after only a few months, but if you carry on not eating meat, your body will have a hard time being able to process it.

  2. I no this is sick but if u really want to stay veggie just looking at a decesed animal might help or making them do tht.. my family makes fun of me because a few years ago i was on and off vegitarian.....now that i am they with do everything but throw burgers at me...

  4. Don't do it for yourself! Do it for the animals sake. Do it for all of those helpless animals living in slaughterhouses each and everyday.. All the **** that they are put through, all of the abuse and torture. Do it because factory farming sucks balls. Do it because you are a nice person, and you would never intentionally hurt something so horribly. Do it to show all of those d**k wads out there that you can live a cruelty free life and be healthier and stronger than before! Be a voice for those billions and billions of animals that die horrendous deaths every year. Do it because you are your own person, and you wont forget about your morals and sympathy for those animals no matter how much people persuade you to eat meat. Do it for those animals that deserve better!!

  5. You should tell them that you want to be a vegetarian because you like it. It makes you feel better, it's healthy. Ask them why not be vegetarian? If they were concerned that you were not getting all the nutrients that you needed, then look it up on the internent, and show them how many alternatives there are for the nutrients in meat.

    When people tell you that you won't last, just tell them that they are disrespecting you by thinking that you are not serious. Even if you had just decided to become a vegetarian yesterday, you can still say you are one, because you have made up your mind.

    Also, if they try to force you to eat, tell them also that they are disrespecting your wishes.

    Proteins: Body's protein needs can be provided by either animal or plant sources. Mixed protein diet obtained from various plant sources is better than animal protein and is recommended in diabetes, renal diseases and liver diseases. Mixed protein diet from different plant sources has been the pattern of diet in India for all vegetarians.

    Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are mainly found in plant foods; like cereals, grains, fresh and dry fruits, legumes, vegetable, greens, nuts etc. plant carbohydrates include' large amounts of starches, sugar and fibers which are important for gut functions. The body is better suited to a high carbohydrate diet than a low carbohydrate diet. In fact 55% of the food intake should be carbohydrate. All animal products do not contain carbohydrate which is essential for body.

    Fat: Plant fats differ from animal fats in two different ways 1) they are cholesterol free 2) they generally contain more polyunsaturated fat and less saturated fats. Plant fats usually have higher polyunsaturated fat value than animal fats.

    A diet which is low in cholesterol and which contains fat of a high PIS value is associated with a lower incident of coronary health disease.

    Vitamins and Minerals: plant foods are rich in many vitamins and minerals.

    Vitamin D: Vitamin D is obtained by exposure of skin to sun light and this is not a problem in India.

    Calcium: The vegetarians can meet their needs for calcium from dairy products. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dark green vegetables are good sources of Riboflavin as are legumes and whole grain cereal.

    Iron: The problem of iron deficiency is relatively common but vitamin C significantly enhances absorption of iron hence it is advisable for vegetarians to include with each meal a food high in vitamin C which as lime, citrus fruits or juices.

    Zinc: Zinc is found in large number of plant foods.

    Fiber: Fiber is found only in vegetarian food like whole grain cereals, legumes, greens, fruits, vegetable etc.

    Thus in vegetarian foods all requirement of nutrition for body growth and maintenance is fulfilled. One can have a complete and balanced diet provided we take enough food which is as close to nature as possible in maintaining sturdy and disease free body. It is equally helpful in curing many diseases.

    ADVANTAGES OF VEGETARIAN DIET:

    More & more evidence is surfacing that directly links a prolonged non- vegetarian diet to diseases as cancers, heart diseases, diabetes, asthma just to name a few.

    1. LOGEVITY: Vegetarian can expect to live 4-10 years longer then the non-vegetarians.

    2. LESS HEART DISEASE: Because of low fat, saturated fat and cholesterol content of the vegetarian diet the risk of heart disease is lowered. High blood cholesterol levels are associated with increased risk of heart disease.

    3. LESS CANCER: Up to 40% of all cancers are diet related. Cancer death rates have been associated with obesity and high fat / low fiber diet. Vitamin A & C are thought to be protective against colon cancer. Low fat diets protect against prostrate and breast cancer. Indoles, lignans, isoflavones, protease inhibitors which are present in plant foods and shown to be potent anti carcinogens.

    4. LESS BOWEL DISEASE: Diverticular disease and appendicitis occur more frequently with low fiber intake as in meat diet.

    5. LEES OBESITY & LESS INCIDENCE OF DIABETES: It is easier to plan a low fat diet for a vegetarian then for a meat eater. The fiber in plant food dilutes the energy & provides a satisfying meal without all the calories. Diabetes over the age of 40 seems to be related to

  7. okayy well whenever someone tries to give youu meat or they make funn of youu for not eating meat just say this "it takes a small person to kill a defensless animal but an even smaller one to eat it." Also milk contains pus && blood so youu might want to stop drinking that and every  package of chicken contains a little p**p.   8. I go through this all the time. My family always bugs me about not eating meat. But if this is something you really want to do just say to them "this is my choice. It is not hurting you in any way so please respect it."

    As for ways to keep it up...there are tons of websites (like PETA) that have clips. You won't ever want to eat meat again

  9. Gahh, i ahd the same issue. Luckly my mom was supportive but i went through the same thing with my dad. he tried to tell me he picked the meat out so it was okay. Grose. My dads side of the family always is at my case about it too, they're always purposely making my favorite foods and telling em to cheat. You just need to ignore everyone and do whats right for you, wether its being vegetarian or not. Ive been vegetarian for almost 11 months and after a month thats what i considered myself. I mean heck. I gave up alot i deserved the title! There has been times where i have tried to cheat but i just cant do it. Its the weirdest thing. ive had something in front of me but i just cant make myself take a bite! ONe time i managed it then i threw up and felt sick.  There are plenty of reasons to keep with it though hun

    - its healthy

    - cutting red meat reduces global warming

    - you're taking a stand for animals everywhere.

    if i were you i'd go to www.peta.org, they give you tons of reasons. When i need motivation to keep going (mcdonalds calls to me once a month) thats where i go. hope this helps, good luck! :)

  10. Be patient - in time they will respect you commitment.

    However it would be good for you to do some research and determine for yourself why you are doing what you are doing.

    Whether it be for health reasons or ethical reasons - if you have a clear resolve and purpose it will be easier to stand firm.

  11. Yeah I won't eat anything that has been cooked with meat either. how disgusting.

    Basically no one can force you to eat meat.... when you go to your great aunts just take some snacks or something to eat if she tries to force feed you meat ... or you can just sit her down and tell her that you won't under any circumstances eat meat. It's probably a good idea to give her a call and let her know before you go so she doesn't go preparing some casserole or something for dinner!

    If there is no reason for you to be vegetarian, that's fine. You don't have to eat meat if you don't want to.

    Some reasons to be a vegetarian -

    think about the poor animals that are being killed.

    It is dead, rotting flesh. Imagine eating your friends arm after it had been sitting in a fridge for a few weeks. not appetizing.

    Pretty disgusting really.

    Its just like cannibalism. only different hahah. but do you know what I mean?

    I gag at the smell of meat, I am sure I would vomit if I actually ate some. Pretty weird hey how you can change so quickly!

  12. im not a vegetarian but my sister is and she has to eat meat because she is going on a mission trip to a poor country so if u r forced 2 eat meat try eating small portions to build up an "immunity" to it, it worked 4 my sister.

  13. well, whether it is right or wrong is up to you. You made the choice to be a veggie and you can decide how strict to be with it. It isnt going to hurt you to eat veggies cooked in meat, but if you dont want to, then tell your mom to set aside veggies for you to cook yourself. I, for one, became a vegetarian because I really didnt like meat when I was younger and it was kind of forced upon me, so it got to the point that meat would make me gag, so I cant eat veggies cooked in meat sauce.

    You wont get sick from going months without it and then eating it again, but I (for example) have been a veggie for over 10 years (since I was 12ish) and I have tried to eat meat again, but (after literally gagging it down) I get really horrible stomachaches. So, no meat for me...

    The meat industry is the #1 cause of water pollution in America.

    Ever hear the complaining about the gas prices? 1/3 of those fossil fuels are used in raising animals for food.

    My teacher was a vegetarian for 5 years, when she ate meat for the first time again she threw up A LOT.
