  1. Because up until the last 200 years, religion had you killed as a heretic for asking questions like that. Aren't you glad that times have changed? Unfortunately, those trapped in the Twin Towers prayed until the buildings collapsed.

  2. When I was really young and feeling extra lazy I'd say something along the lines of, dear god, you know what I want to say, love you, good night zzzzzz.

  3. Because God desires that you have a relationship between you two.

  4. you know, just like, if you walk to this shop selling pies,

and because the shop keeper obviously knows you want the pies,

do you not tell him what you want (which pie) but clench your mouth tight and EXpect the right pie be given to you or even without having to communciate with the seller?

Scenario (2) will be you are a seller selling some stuff,

people walk to you knwoing that you want to sell and make money (to cover your stall rental), they walk to you without saying a word, and here you are selling, wallets, chains and whatever, and you have a promotion going on which you tell the customer, he/ she simply nod the head, would you know does the person want or not want the promotion?

Communication to God is the main point of our relationship.

That said, all relationships require communication (both ways) just like flower needs water.

  5. The Bible story basically teaches us that we should not be braggarts or hypocrites.  The Father does know our needs.  We should ask anyway, because He tells us to continue to pray for one another.  This is also the place in scripture where Jesus gives us the Lord's Prayer.

    Matthew 6

Giving to the Poor and Prayer

1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.  2 “So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 3 “But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.  5 “When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.  6 “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.  7 “And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.  8 “So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.  9 “Pray, then, in this way:

‘Our Father who is in heaven,

    Hallowed be Your name.

    10 ‘Your kingdom come.

    Your will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread.

12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’]

14 “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 “But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.

May God bless you and yours.

  6. I wonder if God will answer a prayer if we do not pray at all?

  7. You have a good point there. It reminds me of another good question. People always insist that we have free will and it enables us to make everyday moral decisions, thus sorting out who goes to heaven or h**l. But if god is all-powerful and all-knowing then wouldn't he already know what you are going to do ahead of time? If god is indeed all-knowing then free will is just an illusion.

  8. He is a personal God. He wants us to ask.  He wants communication and relationship with His children.
