Why straight lined?

why is it called straight lined footwork when ur not going in a straight line and ur turning so much it just doesn't make any sense to me what-so-ever. please explain!!!!

  1. you are actually traveling in a straight line direction, the curving is you changing edges and completely the footwork. even though it may not seem to be a 'straight' line...it is traveling straight from one end of the ice to another regardless or the variations while traveling in that direction....

    i hope that makes sense...!!


  2. because, you always need to have a straight axis.

    the curves are you changing you edge on different circles

    each edge represents a different circle, but you always com back to your axis before starting a new edge or circle.

    its a tad confusing i know.
