  1. To take a break

you can decide your rest day bur still need to conform to the Sunday off which other people take

  2. because sunday is rest time day

  3. courtesy colonial rule.

  4. This is another replica of British Raj, who ruled our Nation for more than a Century.

Before, during the ruling of Moguls, Friday was the weekly holiday in India.

The concept of weekly holiday earlier, was differ from Nation to Nation, depending on the " Subbath " day. The day when the people took rest from other duties and kept the whole Subbath day for rest and Praying and worshiping.

As the Christianity considers Sunday as their Subbath day ( seventh day adventist ) this day is being observed by them as weekly holiday. Hence the Britishers imposed the concept of Sunday holiday, where ever they ruled ( their Colonies ) The practice is still continuing all over, including India.

Friday being subbath day for Muslims, Friday holiday is practiced by all Muslim Nations.

  5. Very Commonly, Sunday is weekly-off, (i.e., REST DAY), in India, since British Raj.

Good number of Industrial Units, Shops, and Business establishments, allow weekly-off, on other week days, other than SUNDAY.

Thus, it is wrong to say..'Sunday is holiday in

    India......................'
