I have been looking at high school schedules and i dont get why make people take language, and Chemistry. I just dont get why not take something your good at. I think i want to be a comedy writer or write a book about World War Two. I just dont see how the French Language or chemistry will help me. If is doesnt help then why take it?

  1. You are very wise. You've figured out the point of high school: there is none. Basically the people in the government say we all have to have a basic education, and high school is it. Not a very good one. Nothing to do with our interests or what we want, but hey....whatever....

But then again, that chemistry class might change your mind. you might say 'omg I totally want to make blue liquid fizzle for a career now!!!!'

    not.

Just keep doing what you like on the side. Practice making people laugh. Read up on WWII. Consider it your real education.

  2. I used to feel the same way, and I still do, somewhat.  The only thing that I can figure is that when people take different classes, it might make them realize that they are interested/good at something that they didn't realize before.  Also, some of those horrible classes teach you to "think" in a different way to solve a problem.  Learning a different language is neat though, b/c you'll come across people of many different cultures during the course of your life, and it's kind of cool to be able to communicate with them in their native language.  I do know how you feel though - I used to get so mad when I had to take Physics and Trigonometry.  I absolutely hated the classes, I KNEW that I didn't want to pursue a career in either, but I had to take it to get into college.  YUCK.

  3. Your question is why, that's very simple. To give you a broa education, spanning from the Arts, Language, to the Technology, Mathematics and Sciences, as well as Physical Education.

How will French or Chem help you? Well, if you want to include chemical weapons in you book, or have educated jokes chemistry will come in.

French would improve your language and linguistic skills.

Personally I love and excel at chemistry, just do your subject and drop it as soon as you want. Sometimes the skills they force you come in handy.
