Why tap the beer cans?

I always do it and i dont know why, when I'm going to open a beer in a can, I tap the top

  1. I don't think it really works, but fluid dynamics are really strange.

    A side effect of tapping on the top of the can is that it delays opening the can, so it might help the CO2 settle a bit more in the interval, but that has more to do with the waiting than the tapping.

  4. I don't know if it really works but you tap the top of a beer can to keep it from foaming over.
