Jesus said, "if flesh came into being because of spirit, that is a marvel, but if spirit came into being because of the body, that is a marvel of marvels.

:yet I marvel how this great wealth has come to dwell in this poverty

think what he is saying to his fellow human beings, by just being a body you can create a spirit, then you would be one with the creator /god holy spirit, this is all man kinds option to become a spirit . check out my Avatar this is the gospel, GOOD NEWS

  1. please indulge me "The Gospel of Thomas"? What is that? Thanx.

  2. Oh God...I really don't like Tom!  He is a scarey person!

  3. The only intelligent man among Jesus desciples was Thomas. In Gospel of Thomas you can see lot of gems which is not mentioned anywhere in Bible.Jesus's followers were fishermen and uneducated people. These kind of words just baffled them and did not register in their minds. Only Thomas brings such verses which proves that Jesus spoke like a Budha or Krishna to advanced people. And to simple people he spoke simple stories that they can understand.

But this particular sentence is there somewhere in Bible. So it is not from gospel of Thomas. Gospel of Thomas is only a collection of few verses not mentioned in Bible.

Jesus's words do not mean that just by being a body you can create a spirit. He mentions spirit as great weaith. If the spirit becomes flesh it is not very great.Because the real seed is there and it has manifested as body. In reality it is not spirit that grows and becomes a body.It is a totally different proces. Man and woman goes to intercourse and body is created and the spirit flows into it. The spirit couldn't do anything of it's own to make the men go into intercourse. So the real proces is because of body the spirit comes into existence.

Those who have understood the beauty of spirit have always wodered how it could dwell  in a body which is beset by all kinds of diseases and troubles.

  4. This is Thomas' idea and his alone. Check it against everything else Christ said. It doesn't fit.

  5. THE GOSPEL OF THOMAS is a sort of mismash of the gnostic teaching prevelant in some of the Greco-Roman mystery cults and a Christianity that was trying to develop an Orthodox (right-thinking) position in the 2nd century AD/CE...as it was a later devolpment, it probably should not be assumed the words date back to Jesus...

Plus, I think you are making an assumption about gnosticism that does not appear to be the case...those with "gnosis" are those beings that are set apart from eternity to have this special knowledge...in a sense, Calvin's doctrine of pre-destination is a further development of this type of thinking.

But in Gnosticism, that special spirit becomes "trapped" in a body that is able to house it, and the "great poverty" is the human body itself...the GOSPEL OF THOMAS's version of Jesus is not telling His followers that they can "become" anything - He is telling them they already are and the "proof" is that they are with Him...

It's a very self-justifying passage, as is much of religious doctrine...to a believer it is objective "truth"...to those outside looking in, it simply sounds like subjective manipulation...

  6. Well there is a reason why the Gospel of Thomas is not accepted by "mainstream" Christians.

ALL the rest of the bible states plainly that we are mortals, we cannot produce life, much less eternal life. God is the author of life.

That we can "be like God" or that we can produce immortality was the first lie told to humans.

Don't you believe it.  Only by humbling yourself before the One and Only God will you receive eternal life.
