Question:

Why the COT cars look sideways coming down the track?

I have a question that i hope someone can help me with. I noticed, not just at Pocono, but other races too, some of the cars look sideways when they are coming down the track. By that i mean the back ends look to be going in a different direction then front. It almost looks like they have been wrecked but they haven't been. I never noticed it on the old cars just on the COT. Why do the cars do this?

  1. the rear wing , makes a unbalenced side force on the car, pushing the car , making it look as if it is side ways

  2. It's called crab walking. The cars appear to be sideways but they are not. A couple of weeks ago nascar made a rule to stop this.

  3. Its called rear "tow out" or "yaw".  They move the rear axle to create increased side force on the car for getting off the turns.  SIde force is the air that puts positive pressure on the side of the car to help it turn better.

  4. They are pushing the rear wing out....mamy people call it yaw. yea you have seen it b4 examples...the #77 in the all star race and c. edwards in almost all his races...lol..and yes nascar has made a rule about it...and they added the rule about the tire pressures around the same time...and nascar is a GREAt sport and FYI we dont breed out sister's what you do in your private  time is you buisness but dont let us know that ur a pev.(i wasnt talking about the person that asked the question i was talking about the guy that answered the question that he said that nascar wasnt a sport and that all we do is drink beer and bread our sisters)...(what a fagget!)

  5. It's called yaw. the teams were building the cars where the back end stuck out so it would help the car handle better. nascar made a rule recently that limited the yaw on a car.

  6. It makes the car turn better in the corners.

That's how Carl Edwards won those races. Soon enough everyone else caught on and started doing it.

  7. When they came out with the C.O.T. they really limited what the crews could do to their cars in order to make them handle better.  As you have seen when someone messes with the car and it does not fit the Template large penalties are handed down.  When they put this Yaw into the car it allows the rear wing to stick out further into the air and gives them much more "side-bite" resulting in a much easier car to handle going through the corners.  Expect too see this more and more as we head to the "Cookie Cutter tracks"  (MIchigan, Chicago, Kansas, etc..."  With so much of those tracks involving the constant turning of the car, this type of strategy will be used more and more.

Long story short, this is the most significant way to make the car turn better while still matching up with the templates.

Its very similar to the strategy they used by putting soft springs in the cars allowing them to meet the ride height (at a stationary position), but when at full speed they squatted down much lower than the required height.

  8. The cars look like that because of the changing of the rules. i dont know if you have heard, but the cup rules have changed. (as of 2 weeks ago). The tire settings can only be adjusted so much, so most of the NASCAR teams have settled on placing them at a certain position (which is farther right of the car rather than facing perfectly straight). It helps with the down force on the straight- aways and coming in and out of the turns.

  9. It's because they are trying to get as much downforce as possible. Lots of people think that NASCAR is going to do something about it.

  10. They have the C.O.T
