Why the EU doesn't have his own opinion in global politics and follows the USA ideas of the world? ?

The EU could be a real power in all senses - economical, political and cultural - but why all the decisions of the EU on the world arena is an echo of the USA, why it doesn't struggle for their own interests and don't let itself get into war and economy troubles with the USA?

What are your ideas?

how can u say that?? 1st of all there isn't one foreign opinion in europe we don't have one ministry for foreign affairs yet because our positions are too differente, for instance look during the iraqi crisis: there were 2 positions french position and english positionn the UK always support the USA they don't care about the matter or if the decision is right or wrong they support, but in general french and germany don't support the US actions because they want to keep the EU independance... of course it's depend on the governments in activity (except for England)

and excuse me but currently the european economic situation is better than the US one, a lot of french people invest in the USA since the exchange rate is favorable for us and the houses prices are so low there... and the EU has never lost its cultural touch... more and more in hollywood they come to search european actors or directors or artists, more and more our movies go to hollywood and they make more and more remake of our movies

of course we cannot change the US hegemony in one day and the EU has a long road to make but we're in a good way.. at least i think that

The EU has quite some independent policies regarding global affairs. They are, however, in general oriented towards similar targets than ours and that provides some common objectives.

The EU nowadays has too many stupid leaders unable to think for themselves and just buying the c**p sold in washington.

The most glaring examples are merkel,berlusconi and the silly gordon brown.The poles are the worst of the bunch anyway.And sarkozy is hardly willing to take an independant position either,unlike chirac.

You just have to wonder why the electorate does not turn these morons out of office.

The E.U is a Union between 27 european countries. Deciding about external politics is time consuming, because there might be 27 different opinions, but that's not the real problem.

The thing is that the UK, Germany, France and many other big countries follow the decisions of the USA and influence by many other ways (economically, strategically etc.) the leaders of the rest of the European Member States

If you are asking this because of the latest events, you must be aware of the fact that the E.U will reach to a point and announce its desicion this Monday, so let's wait ')

The EU has it's own opinion and it isn't good. They are eventually going to become more powerful than the United States and that's a fact.

Maybe is because the USA is the leader and the majority of country follow the leader but cooperate between each other to better and secure the free world. I think that when they all meet, that is what they all talk about. World peace.

we are both western, globalized, rich, democratic, majority white, majority christian. Most americans are of european descent. It makes sense that we would have similar ideas and policies

The EU is first and foremost an economic union, not a political or military one. It's not a case of the EU following the USA. They are defense partners. That partnership is NATO.  When it comes to politics there are many different opinions even between EU countries.
