Why the Lockout could be a good thing for Vancouver Canucks -NHL Special
While some teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) may be losing out on a lot because of the lockout after investing heavily in revamping their squads during the offseason, others are set to benefit and taking opportunity of the extra time is something
they should due instead of wasting the golden chance.
One of those clubs is without a doubt, the Vancouver Canucks, who for the last two hockey regular seasons have ended atop the league and won the Presidents’ Trophy, but failed to make any significant progress in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Vancouver fans might
hate for saying this but the 2011 run for the Stanley Cup Finals was nothing other but pure luck since Roberto Luongo kept on choking but would miraculously bounce back when they needed him the most, except in the finals against Boston Bruins.
Their true colours came out in the 2012 NHL Playoffs after they were ousted right in the quarterfinals by the Los Angeles Kings in just six games, which was definitely embarrassing for a team that ended first and a major boost for a club that ended eighth
and became the first ever to do so and win a Stanley Cup to put that golden cherry on top on that very tasty cake.
The Vancouver Canucks, hopefully, will realize that this is the time to get things straight as it might just be the last regular season for not only general manager Mike Gillis, but also everyone else in the front office and many players as fans have had
enough of them striking out when performance really does matter.
A number of players are injured at the moment like American All-Star Ryan Kesler and top level defenseman Alex Edler and Jason Garrison, but fortunately, are improving.
“We’re pretty confident Alex is improving and it seems like he’s in a position where ... I can’t speak for the doctors, but they’re going to re-examine him and I think as early as this afternoon and give us a conclusion and a diagnosis,” Gillis said. “I
can’t really speak a whole lot about it because we’re waiting for this latest diagnosis.”
This is the time to realize that fans are looking forward to celebrating a Stanley Cup championship at home and forget the historic riot back in 2011 and maybe, just maybe, the Vancouver team will make that happen and have their names written in history.
