Why the Lockout means Cash Time for AHL -NHL Special Part 1
The lockout, thus far, has resulted in immense loss for the National Hockey League (NHL) team owners and players as well. Both stakeholders are not making money at the moment, except the players who have already made the jump to continue playing in foreign
leagues around the world.
This is time now for minor leagues, like the American Hockey League (AHL), to begin racking in the cash as fans find alternative sources to either keep following their favourite players, wherever they are, and seek other ways to enjoy some quality hockey
entertainment.
Hockey is without a doubt, a unique sport in each and every meaning of the term since no other sport brings as much entertainment, physicality and aggressiveness to the television screen as it does. Which is why hockey fans are also one of a kind, as nothing
else will be enough to quench their thirst of hard hitting into the sideboards, swift slap shots and some good old fashion bare knuckled fights.
All the other hockey leagues, not only around North America, but the world, have already kicked off their regular seasons, the AHL is getting a lot more attention since many superstar rookies and veterans have decided to make the minor league transition
in order to keep getting a pay check for what they do best.
Here are some aspects which have really benefitted the AHL across the boards during the lockout,
More Major League Executive Attention
This has to be one of the best aspects since major league executives have nothing else to do at the moment and are trying to stay busy by overlooking the operations going on with their affiliates in the minor league. One of the best examples of this are
the Boston Bruins, of which the coach and general manager are paying close attention to the Providence Bruins, giving them tips on how to make some changes, while keeping an eye on prospects for the upcoming drafts.
The lockout is bound to come to an end at some moment or another and for teams, the time is now to do some early homework on getting some big future players into the scene and have scouting reports done ahead of time to save the workload for other things
later.
Promote NHL Players on their Teams
A leading marketing tactic for AHL teams around North America right now is the fact they can use the big faces of the NHL to promote their teams and bring a whole new following of fans to give the minor league a try as well.
Players like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle and soon to join the Oklahoma City Barons, Taylor Hall, are all some of the Edmonton Oilers’ top talent and really giving the Oklahoma based team a big name.
