Why the Lockout means Cash Time for AHL -NHL Special Part 2
While the American Hockey League (AHL) teams are working on promoting their newly added top talent of the National Hockey League (NHL) due to the limitless lockout and capitalising on the special attention from their major league affiliates, there are a
number of other aspects the minor league is cashing in on due to the unforgiving deadlock.
Promote Hockey in Unconventional Markets
Focusing on promoting hockey in parts of Canada would not be suitable, since the Canadian nation is already all about hockey and crazy about the sport. Now is the time for minor leagues like the AHL to not only bring on a new following of fans by using the
big name players, but also work on brining hockey to a place which has not seen the sport as much.
There are still many parts of a state like California, which has three major league hockey teams, that does not have full coverage of the sport and working to convert those areas into loving the board smashing, punching and stick flying game should be their
top most priority.
One of the most important aspects in this working is that the AHL’s tickets are much cheaper than those of the NHL, for many reasons, but capitalising on that would certainly boost and most definitely already is.
Bring the Media on Board
Not having enough coverage is what really keeps the AHL from thriving into a bigger platform. The lack of media coverage is a major reason why it continues to be considered a minor league. While it may not bring it up to NHL level, and is not meant to be
that way either, but allowing fans to regularly keep up with games is the need of the moment.
Most NHL dedicated sports channels are looking for reasons to give immense coverage to other leagues and giving them the rights to do so could significantly boost the expansion related needs of hockey and the AHL at the same time.
NHL fans are hungry action and allowing maximum game, news and rumour coverage should be what the AHL has planned to take full benefit of.
Keep Fans Coming Back
All that hockey fans love is great hockey action, a fun environment to watch the games and something to look forward to. Increasing the intensity of the game will definitely have them racing back for more each and every time without fail.
Even when the lockout comes to an end, the AHL might have a tough time keeping that newly gained fan base alive, but a number of things like cheap tickets, events, kids specials and many other things will obviously keep the fans excitement alive at the end
of the day.
