Why the New York Islanders Move to Brooklyn is a Good Thing -NHL Special
Three more seasons and the New York Islanders will be an independent team of their own as the team management announced a shift to the newly built Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It has been more than enough for one of hockey’s most underrated clubs to continue
playing in the shadows of a team like the New York Rangers and now time to make their own identity.
Like the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), not many fans were interested in keeping up with the second place team of the same city. Why watch the Islanders when you have the Rangers, a lot of fans would ask, but that will
not all hopefully change for them.
One of the best aspects about the move is that there will be a lot more money involved just because they are changing regions. Long Island has been home of the team for quite a while now, but it was not the best of places when it comes to generating revenue.
Brooklyn is a much better area in that regard and could mean a lot more players anticipating a move there, higher salaries and more talent willing to take the chance.
Seeking attention from the media and fans is the ultimate goal of any NHL team and the Islanders now have the time to shine. These next three seasons should be made to work on improving everything on the team so that when they do make the move, it should
be with a bang and a comeback to the playoffs or even Stanley Cup Finals will just explode the intensity even further.
The Rangers and Islanders do play together some times, but that is not as exciting to watch. When the Islanders get their new arena and become a totally different team, rivalry between the two sides will grow by manifolds, increasing the excitement like
it is when fans watch a match between the Rangers and New Jersey Devils.
Brooklyn fans will also have some hockey to look forward to and instead of rooting for a team like the Rangers, they have now got their own squad to woo for when games are being played either at home or on the road.
This move will also boost the morale of the Islanders players that are still with the team when it is time to make the move and they will definitely not regret getting a new and rejuvenated identity of their own.
