Often, if not always, when a kitchen has a center island, the wood used in the island is a lighter or darker wood than the wood used for the kitchen cabinets. Why is that? Why isn't the same type of wood used?

  1. it's fro looks, but you can do it anyways you want to

  2. Sometimes the island is used as a "focal point" of the kitchen, and a different wood might give it more of a furniture appearance.  Makes it stand out, and not just blend in with the rest of the cabinets.
