Why the color of the sea is different from the water in the glass which has a blue paper over it?

  1. Well for one the water would be translucent in the glass because the whole glass around is see-through and the water you have in the glass has been filtered, therefore has more clarity than ocean water.

    The ocean is not as translucent because it is surrounded by sediment and the amount of water in the ocean is unmeasurable and is not as clear as the filtered water you have in the glass.  What gives the ocean the blue appearance would be the reflection from the sky and sometimes the color of the algae (usually gives the ocean more of a green effect).


  2. the above answer is good, i'd just like to add that a glass of water is much smaller than the ocean, which is also deeper, if you look at the sea when it is 10cm deep, all you see is sand.

    also, the sky's colour is created in a very different way from the way the colour on the blue paper is reflected. (refraction and stuff)
