Question:

Why the double standard regarding Obama and Palin?

by  |  earlier

Liberals are allowed to say, "Palin was chosen as McCain's running mate simply because she is a woman."

But conservatives are NOT allowed to say, "Obama was picked by the Democrats simply because of his race" -- at least not without being labeled racists.

I don't think either candidate should be judged based on race or gender.

But why are liberals allowed to get away with this without being called sexist -- while conservatives can't do it lest they be called racists?

Is it me, or is this just another pro-liberal double standard?

  1. Just a typical Liberal Double standard.I guess thats why I ditched the democratic Party. And I never looked back.

Im also Glad the conservatives have Real people like you.

    Your the real deal.

  2. well : I am also An registered  Republican  Voter that knows

About" Elections for Republican or Democratic House Committee  of

course they Answers  Politics & Government  also it's decided

by The Majority of voters whom go to the General - Official Polls

plus pick An Campaign Candidate for An Presidenital  Nomination

  3. I am with you Jenny! Liberals flip out at any minority who is conservative. In their view, all minorities should be liberal, and they are VERY threatened by woman, blacks, latinos, asians, who are conservative. They think all minorities should fit into their liberal mold.

  4. You are right that no one should be judged based on race or gender for any position.

But, the premise of your question is still wrong. There are major differences between the apples and oranges you are comparing:

    1. Obama was selected by a concensus of millions of Democrats, and Palin was selected (or at least approved) by a single person, John McCain.

    2. Obama was not chosen simply because he is Black, whereas it is very apparent that Palin was chosen, at least in part, because she is a woman. McCain passed over far more qualified men to pick her, apparently because he (or his campaign) felt that they, too needed a history-making candidate.

    3. Obama was not chosen in order to get the Black vote. Palin was, at least in part, to get the female vote, specifically to pull in the few remaining disgruntled female Clinton suppporters - a fact that even Republican strategists concede.

  5. DING DING DING--we have a winner!

This is a re occuring theme with far left liberals. for example, they profess to want change and bring about unity. However, thier own words (often stemming from emotion, rather than reason), childish name calling and double standards provide no proof to this.If one wants change..should they not be willing themselves to change? should they not be setting the example? you can;t eliminate discrimination, racism, sexism, sterotypes etc..when your own followers( Obamas) are the very people projecting the behavior

Numerous post have critisized McCains choice of woman..to the point of saying that his choice "demeaned" woman//HUH???? because he went against Republican status qou? They should be applauding the choice as another step foreword for woman and cast thier vote according to the candidate they most agree with..yet, old habits..its so much easier to make accusations and get all emotional without putting any thought into it.They asked for change..McCain provided it..and now they still are not happy.

  6. It is a double standard and it's exactly why I'm a Republican now.

  7. I'm not sure it's a double-standard since neither statement is accurate. There are some distinctions to be made here.

While I'd agree that there are probably a lot of voters who voted for Obama because of his race, I'd also bet that there are an equal amount who didn't vote for him for the same reason.  However, I think that he's the candidate because of his inspirational ideas for the future of this country.

On the other hand, McCain's selection of Palin was a blatant, transparent, calculated move to appease the conservative wing of his party as well as the disgruntled Hilary supporters.  So, just like some Obama voters, McCain's choice WAS (in part) based on her gender.

BTW, you can SAY whatever you'd like.  There's always going to be some jerk who's going to throw a label at you.  Take it with a grain of salt.  There are a lot of reactionaries on Y!A.

  8. 100% i agree with you! AMEN!!!  I could not have said it better myself!

  9. Jenny yove hit the nail on head. Youre absolutely correct. Liberals are two faced and are frauds. They want ot decrease taxes on the middle class but they know theyll raise them to support their universal; healthcare plan. They claim to believe in free love, peace and equality (to a point where you can contract STDS, literally, lol) for all people but they can go on and abort babies without giving them a chance.

If you want to get even angrier about how people are against Palin and McCain, tune into the Communist News Network (CNN) where you see how biased reporting can actually get. They imply through their biaed and unfair reporting that Palin has "no experience" (Ha, and then what does Obama have?!)and McCain was being an idiot for choosing her. McCain was smart for choosing her. Obama had the chance to get the female voters by choosing Clinton (who I am also against), but McCain learned from Obama's mistake. Now he has the prolife vote and the vote of the many Democrats who wont vote for Obama.

    Jenny, God Bless you.

P.S: Don't let the obamabots get to you. They have the nerve to call you a foreigner when they want to give millions of illegals healthcare and security (I am dissappointed in McCain only for his illegal immigration policy as well). You are not a foreigner. You came here legally, as my parents did and loved America so much you became a citizen. Again, God Bless you!

*gives Jenny standing ovation and cheers*

  10.   I believe we still have freedom of speech in this country, so liberals or conservatives can say whatever they want and they usually do. My guess is that people are much more scared to be labeled as a racist than as sexist in this country and so you will find few people who would suggest that something was done purely based on someones race. For example how many times have you heard a sexist joke in your life (at school or work)? Then in the same situation how many times have you heard a racist joke? I would bet people tolerate sexism more than they would racism. Not saying it's right and I don't have an explanation for it but it seems that way to me.

  11. uh Obama was elected by voters, the people. Palin was chosen by McCain as the Affirmitive Action VP to pander to women voters.

    nice try

  12. You have to keep in mind: McCain Only selected her as VP to simply get more female voters on his side. Dems, however, picked Obama not because of his race, but because they're mostly fools who are amazed by decent speeches. That's where the difference lies, and how it's not necessarily a double standard, though people shouldn't be criticizing the two candidates on the fact they're black or female, but how horribly in-experienced they are for their offices. Both sides of this election are just pathetic.

  13. Yes, it is a double standard and I have been raising the same question since Democrats first said McCain is too old.  I guess they don't realize that ageism is as wrong as racism.  They also don't remember that Ronald Reagan was elected for his second term when he was 73, one year older than McCain.

  14. Obama was not picked, he was elected. There is a big difference in sincerity. If Palin were running for the Presidential nomination she would have not made a ballot. She was PICKED in hopes of getting McCain elected. Since she has only a few years experience in a State that has the population of Milwaukee City she was not selected because she was the second best person in the US to be commander in chief.
