Why the embargo on Cuba??

I just can't understand how Cubans or Americans benefit from this blockade. I want to visit Cuba and have fun on their beaches and sight see but I can't because my government says so.. WTF??? How are we helping these poor people who only want a better life? The Castros are living well and have no needs, but the people are suffering. Are we doing the right thing? Let me know what you think.

  1. You can't ? It is not that hard to understand. Regarding the Americans I don't know and I don't care what they think.

About us, it is simple. You are not helping us. The castros  live well indeed and we are suffering. You have no idea how much. But you are doing the right thing indeed.

The embargo is a possible bargaining tool that the USA have, assuming that they really want to improve the conditions in Cuba ( something that I doubt ) . They must keep telling Raul that, to lift the embargo, he must give something

He must release the prisoners and grant freedom to the people. For years, fidel has been demanding the elimination of the embargo, but without giving anything in exchange. For free !

To help us, you must demand the elimination of comunism in Cuba and freedom

  2. And why does the US have no embargo on communist China, etc ?

Cuba negotiated with every other government terms for compensating what was nationalised - only the US government refused to talk.

I suspect that the main reason is the political influence of Cuban-Americans in Florida - including the Diaz-Balart family, who never forgave Fidel Castro for dumping his first wife, and others who were powerful figures in the Batista regime that the revolution overthrew (and which was also undemocratic and tyrannical).

As you say, the embargo actually suits the Castros - they can blame any problems on that.

  3. In the case of the Americans I have no idea. About us, you could help us. Press for the elimination of the last comunist regime ( I am not counting Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua ) in America.

What I cannot understand is why on earth those countries decided to elect comunist governments. They must be insane

  4. The embargo happened because fidel nationalized the business of certain people from the usa.

The presidents of the usa have not considered appropriate to eliminate the embargo. Anyway, there is no reason to eliminate it until the cuban government grant some benefits

  5. No problem. The embargo was placed by the USA government as penalty for the comunist government seizing their businesses

About the yanks, I don't know, but you are being selfish thinking only that YOU want to visit Cuba and have fun in our beaches and you can't. You should think as well that WE want to be free

Lifting the embargo would not improve anything. You would give fidel a victory in his last days and you would make him happy.

So far, the Cuban government has to pay cash for what they buy. There are some wise ones that want to do business and want the USA government to subsidize the purchases. Ha !

Fidel doesn't pay. If you want to make business with him, do it at your own risk

Yes, you are doing the right thing. Tell, as it has been done before, that to lift the embargo, Raul ( and the big brudder behind him ) must release the political prisoners, have elections and ALLOW FREEDOM

Instead of criticizing the embargo you should press the government to end quickly this dictatorship that lasts 50 years
