I saw this movie called "Detroit Rock City" with Edward Furlong. Near the beginning of the movie, their drummer was taken to some religious school place by his mom and when they were in the middle of rescuing him, a pizza was ordered, the pizza delivery guy was from "Pizza Pig" and the pizza guy said that the pizza was $10.

$10 back then is like $30 now. Who the h**l pays $30 for a d**n pizza? You can get a large pizza at Pizza-Hut for $10 nowadays.

  1. Pizza Hut sucks nut.  Quality beats quantity every time.  Why would someone pay $10 for something crummy when they can pay $30 for something good.  It's always $30 when I order a pizza, unless it's a small one.

  2. It depends, where I live, a good tasting large pizza with all the toppings is fairly close to $30.

In the mid '70s in New York, a slice of pizza was $1.  Now it's about $3.  If there is 10 slices to a pizza then the price would be about right for the movie.

  3. HAHAHA, well $30 is about right for a large pizza from Pizza Hut here in Portugal, it can even go up to $50 if you put more ingredients- $4 per ingredient. Enjoy your $10 Pizza.

  4. The price change because the industry has become cut-throat, over crowded. Before, it was mom and pop or pizza-hut. Now it's Domino's, Papa John's, Little Ceazer's, California Pizza Kitchen, ect... If some one tried charging that much now a days they wouldn't last a month.

  5. Dude, in the late 70s a large (16") pizza with the works was nine or ten bucks. I know, I used to run pizzerias. This wasn't the price for a cheese or one or two topping pizza (5 or 6 bucks), but a pie with everything on it cost that much ($10).

As for Detroit Rock City, have you ever thought that maybe it was just bad writing from someone who wasn't a teen in the 70s? Movies have errors all the time.

  6. Pizza used to be good and you get what you pay for.

  7. Well, the movie came out in 1999. That was 21 years later than the plot. Maybe they just didn't figure out the price inflation correctly. Besides, even if it was $10, doesn't mean it would be $30 anyway.

Going by that theory, the titanic in 1912, a first class ticket cost 211 pounds. That is $389 USD. In todays money that would be 8555.80 (USD)

So yes it is $30, but not everything in inflation is going to equal out to be 100%
