Question:

Why the letters in the ambulances have the letters upside down?

I've heard its because the helicopters see it right from above, but I wanted to make sure. And, if it's true, how does that work?

Thanks to all,

Bella

  1. It's backwards, and it's because that way the cars in front of the ambulance can read it normally through their mirrors. =) .

  2. All the letters in the ambulances in our area that I have seen are right side up. Have you actually seen the letters you are talking about? Police cares and other official vehicles often have markings for aerial identification like the helicopter scenario you are talking about. Since a police car from above may be situated in various positions, the helicopter pilot can identify it easier with markings (numbers-letters etc.) in various directions for easy reading.

  3. so you can see it correctly in the rear view mirror

  4. It is true, just like the word ambulance on the front is backward, In your rearview mirror it is right.

  5. Upside down or backwards?

They make them backwards so people can read it in their rear-view mirrors.

    Just a picture...
