Hi I have 38'' Philips HDTV/LCD with 768P & Philips Blu-ray player. I am using HDMI cable from Philips brand & there gold teeth. I heard that the monsters HDMI cables are the best. So then I bought one in Bestbuy. It is a "Monster 800 HDMI cable" & it cost me $72. When I played some of my Blu-ray movies, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE OF THE PICTURE. So the monsters cables are a myth!

  1. Correct.

    You need to read this.

Coat hangers can out perform your expensive monster cables in a double blind test.

  2. Yep, HDMI signals are a Digital signal....you need a good transmission line cable that's HDMI 1.3a for the best bandwidth, but that's it....

Now when it comes down to a COMPONENT (analog) cable, the Monster cables can actually be worth the cost .....

But I'd probably buy the BELKIN line for Component signals....

  3. Like anything it has to do with the application.  You probably wouldn't drive your 18 wheel truck to get groceries or use your Cadillac to plow a field.  Monster makes a good cable but it is overkill for most home users.

HDMI is a digital signal.  That means it's computer style data, basically numbers.  If the TV can still read the numbers, it puts together a perfect picture every time.  When it gets to the point that it can't make out the numbers or correct for the missing numbers, it gives up and you get nothing.  In engineering terms we call this the "digital cliff".

So the heart of the issue is, can the TV make out the numbers?  In a six foot cable, like in most homes, the signal is not going to degrade to the point of "falling off the cliff".  So you will not see a difference between the $100 cable and the $10 cable.

In a run of a couple hundred feet, you might start seeing something, but practically nobody is going to try that.  So, I wouldn't say that the Monster cable is a myth, it's just a waste of money for the large majority of users.

I hope that helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.

  4. from what everyone has told me HDMI is HDMI like RT said you wont notice a difference unless you run a like 50 feet of this stuff. But to stick up for Monster if you have say all Monster cables and a Monster power pack (surge protector) this actually warranties any products you may have running off it from Lightning and other power surges. Which is a great deal considering Lightning kills more Plasma and LCD's than most realize. Food for thought. Also the ole cliche You get what you pay for.
