  1. That is a "generalization", people who are intelligent come with many different personality characteristics.

Did ya ever consider that the "quiet ones" ...may really just be "dumb" ...and are busy concentrating on not drooling?

I mean how would you "know" unless they demonstrated their intelligence with some sort of conversation?

    Consider these quotes :)

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

    Abraham Lincoln

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

    Mark Twain

I am a minimalist.  I like saying the most with the least.

    Bob Newhart

Besides, IQ can be measured in many forms...

there is EQ, ( emotional intelligence)

    Gardner's Categories of Intelligence

    Bodily-Kinesthetic IQ

    Interpersonal IQ

    Verbal-Linguistic IQ

    Logical-Mathematical IQ

    Naturalistic IQ

    Intrapersonal IQ

      Spatial IQ

      Musical IQ

sometimes I think that people who have a high IQ in certain areas are not so "sharp" emotionally because they are just so absorbed in thought and forget about the outside world around them.

  2. I think this is a good observation, I have thought about this often, it is over generalizing a bit, but people who are the loudest and talk the most usually have the least to say and are the most obnoxious and boring to listen to.  I am attracted to people who have thoughtful answers and are quiet, it's sort of like we can recognize each other in the quiet..that sounds weird but it seems true based on the people I am drawn to...it is interesting to get to know these "quiet" types and discover how interesting and diverse they are...after you open up to each other you realize they ARE NOT QUIET AT ALL....they just have sort of a threshold that you must get thru before they open up to you in their own way...I love this and trust it b/c it doesn't come easy.  Does this make sense?

  3. It could be that by being quiet, the person can think more deeply into something than one who says what first pops to mind. Or, maybe by being silent, someone can absorb and focus more on the information given to them. There is no one correct answer.

  4. Simply because they tend to think before they speak & tend to stay out of conversations apon which they have little knowlage.

  5. I think you're highlighting an important second question:

Why do the least intelligent insist on being the loudest?

Truly intelligent people know that they're probably right, but accept that they can be proven wrong. Thus they discuss their ideas instead of arguing imposing them.

Compare to the least intelligent, who believe with the strongest conviction that they are right and are rarely ready to consider that they may be wrong. They are willing to shout, preach and bully until others are convinced by their enthusiasm or just weary of arguing.

  6. I've never seen any research done that concludes that intelligence and quietness are connected in any way.

However I would subjectively offer that people who are reasonably intelligent are smart enough to realize they don't know it all, and that you can't be learning while you're talking.

On the other hand, those "know it alls" who ramble on incessantly usually are exhibiting how little they really do know.

    Nuff said!

  7. Because they know they dont have to be loud and obnoxious to get their point across.

  8. Because you learn more by listening.

  9. Often they know that if they voice their opinion to a crowd it will be run around again over and over to the point that it no longer has true meaning.  If they are asked for their opinion they will give it, but they do not want to answer until they know all the facts.  It is better that way than jumping to random conclusions about things.

  10. mundaniety is suffer lightly.

  11. Many times the thought process is hard to actualize in mere words and therefore silence is the better choice. Otherwise, you are subjected to misunderstanding and influenced off of the train of thought that you were on, especially if intelligence is coupled with an artistic nature.

  12. Because they don't feel the need to brag.

  13. Because the majority of conversations going on between the C students of the world are just too below their intelligence to join in.  No comment made would raise the level of the discussion since those involved are morons.
