Mamma Mia, on the other hand, generally pleased audiences, and good work of mouth has helped its popularity spread. Plus, you can't beat those songs.

Because prior to Mamma Mia being a movie, it was also a book, which later turned into a musical play.  Mamma Mia has been around for years, it's very family friendly, and the songs are from the well known group ABBA.
