Why the native Siberians did not fight for there own land and there independence from the Slavs of Russia ?

  1. Siberia was (and still is) sparsely populated. There were not enough people to mount a resistance. In a way, like Canada.


  2. there was some resistance, but the russian "explorations" were not done by traders or missionaries. Those were full scale military expeditions and they broke any opposition they met. And they did meet opposition- especially from the Mongol (and related) tribes in southern Siberia. Plenty of records show combat in the area- e.g. around lake Baikal. The contest was bows and arrows against cannon. guess who won?

    Of course the russians do not make sob stories over that (like "bad greedy white man beats up good peaceful indian/native american"). They just say "this was ALWAYS ours"

    Nothern Siberia is practicaly unpopulated- the weather makes living there extremely difficult. SO no opposition there.

  3. Stefano is right, Siberia has always been very very low with the population numbers. Even into the 20th century most of Siberia was uninhabited even though Russia had officially claimed the territory many years before. To this day only about 30% of Russia's population lives in Siberia.
