  1. So the pilot can see the runway. Otherwise, he wouldn't know if he were aligned properly.


  2. It was only done like that to increase the pilot's visibility of the ground in front of them.

    The nose is quite long and when it was tilted up, the pilots could not see where they were going.  That made it difficult to taxi and to see the ground on landing.

  3. So that the pilot can see over the nose.  A delta wing like that of the Concorde is good for supersonic flight but at low speed the aircraft must maintain a high angle of attack during landing.
