  1. Well,I've never really noticed my grandparents watching Olympics before.

But you know what..I've a feeling they'd still root for Lee Chong Wei no matter how much better the china player is in the finals.

As for me,I was screaming and cheering all the way during the semi-finals when Chong Wei won =P

I'm proud to be a Malaysian because of him.

  2. duh..they're actually Chinese immigrants back then. Their love to their country of origin is more than their love to Malaysia(or Tanah Melayu)But now, young generations are born in Malaysia, so the don't feel anything of China.

  3. Could it be they are cheering for their relatives?  Kinship runs deep in Asian cultures.  The ties are very strong.

One of the reasons American born Japanese-Americans ran into trouble in WWII is because their parents maintained such ties with relatives back home.  They subscribed to magazines, newspapers, etc., just like we would subscribe to USA Today while living in China.

You have a natural inclination to stay in touch with your roots.   The first generation of Chinese in Malaysia are doing that.

  4. 1. Being a Chinese, it's proud because China is where we came from - after all.

    2. China are stronger, they have more participants.

    3. Common mentality that grass is greener the other side, which means when they see malaysia, automatically they'll booooooo and think malaysia sure kalah.

  5. You are too sensitive - be more understanding.

  6. Yes, even today Chinese in Malaysia is not recongnise, Malaysia is a Muslim Malay country.

  7. Old generation Chinese most probably do not "connect" with Malaysia because of the treatment they have received from the government ...after working hard to help develope the country....look..is the Malaysian Government treating them as equal MALAYSIANS ???? They are even told to go back to China !

  8. You have to be more specific on this kind of question otherwise you will make lots of people feel unhappy with you.

The support may also base on the money they put on not the person.

i.e. if you put RM20K for LIN Dan to be the champion, would you support LEE Chong Wei???

  9. because they don't know people of china recognize them as malaysians

  10. Only a minor percentage of the older chinese generations support China rather than Malaysia because theirs birth place is China.

It is their choice of preference.

  11. of coz la... im not to be racist la.. but they old country de ma.. lagipun malaysian treat chinese so bad..

  12. yea ..their roots

  13. Let me ask you a simple question.

If you migrate to, say, United States. Do you support Malaysia or USA?

The reason is simple. Your sense of belonging. Example, although American government will take good care of your children's education and so on. You still support Malaysia because your blood still have it.

Do not think that older generation of Chinese supporting China is bad. This is just a sport lah. Don't make this issue too political.

What is your favouride soccer team? Malaysia team or the other foreign football team? (e.g. Chelsea, MU, etc)
