  1. Money creates power.

    Power corrupts people.

  2. Thats not necessarily true, in every nation there are those who are nice and those who arent.

  3. Because they are least affected with the materialistic world around

Their needs and wants are limited also their resources.

One who fights/strives for basic needs..........will not be able to be selfish and shrewd.

Their simplicity is their virtue and vice.

    Hope it helps

    Cheers!

  4. It's not true in EVERY case, but possibly sometimes it makes them more likely to be nicer as a whole because if they're poor, they might not have a lot of stuff. Therefore, they are forced to share without much thought. They learn to appreciate what they have more and if they are a poor nation, they might have never known what it was like to be wealthy. And you know what they say about material possessions...

  5. I would say, they are more Christlike and less materialistic.

  6. Wealth is actually a big burden. Once somebody become rich, it may cause the person to be arrogant. He or she will be choosy e.g. to select who he or she should talk to for prestige purpose etc.

For the poorer, they don't have nothing. They don't think about prestige etc. That's why some people say the poor is wealthy, wealthy in courtesy.. Take example Indonesia. You will find that they are very nice people if you go there (unlike few who come here doing the evil).

  7. Thats a broad generalisation, but I know what you mean. I think it has a lot to do with the lack of social security, so people band together, and families stay close., and support each other.

  8. Do you just sit at ur computer and pull questions out of your butt? have you ever been to one of these 'poorer nations?' Where are you drawing up this question from?

  9. I reject your hypothesis.  What published study did you get that from?  Look at Sudan, Rowanda, etc.  That's as poor as it gets, yet too many people there are certainly NOT very nice.  Americans are as a group the wealthiest, and they are also the most generous when it comes to sending aid.  Anyway, the longer I live and the more I travel, I've come to believe that "people are people."  Rich, poor, there isn't all that much difference in the grand scheme.

    PS--

The original quote above is from the Bible, and it goes,

"Certainly, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people who have set their hearts on getting rich have wandered away from the Christian faith and have caused themselves a lot of grief."   1 Timothy 6:10

Note the key here is actually greed, not simply being successful and having some wealth.

  10. Because they understand what it is to truly have love, happiness, and to be thankful for the good as well as the bad.

  11. Whoa, kind of over generalisation, no?

What are your basis for comparison?  Sure, you can go into the whole non-materialistic society, common goals, spiritual world, etc.  And thus money does not bring happiness, neither watching your child die of a treatable disease.

It is good that you "felt" for some people in your travels, but maybe you are being a tad biased.

  12. Because life isn't about material things. This is a perfect example of the saying MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.

  13. Because the broker they are, the more they suck up to anyone with cash?

  14. I think that, generally speaking, of course, is true. The simple answer is because they haven't had the opportunity to know what material things are available due to lack of television and other access to the worlds wares. They are simply happy, literally. I have been to the Dominican Republic and seen what 'dirt poor' really means. People live in huts with dirt as their floors, babies run around either naked or only a diaper. Young children follow tourists, hoping for something, anything they may toss to them. I have taken beautifully genuine pictures of such happy children with unforgettable smiles.

  15. In poor nations there is less of a socio-political social network if any exists at all.  As of such in order to deal with social issues it is very important that you maintain good relationships with your family and friends in poorer nations because it is this network that provides your social network instead of the state.  Because of this fact there are stronger friendships and family connections in poorer nations, and they are reaffirmed on a regular basis.  In wealthier nations, however, people get caught in the rat race and focus more on their careers because it is their economic standing that provides them with safety and not neccisarily their friendships.  In the structure of wealthier nations friendship is not the priority and even though people can appear friendly on the surface, long term friendships where friends invest a lot in each other emotionally, financially and socially rarely form or are as long lasting.  Frequently months or even years go by in wealthy nations before friendships are reaffirmed, where in the poorer nations where I have lived these bonds are reconfirmed very frequently.  It is this reaffirmation of ones usefullness through friendships that makes these societies overall and genuinely nicer then their wealthier counterparts.  To put it simply, does it feel better to genuinely help people, or to help the company that you work for... to rely on people for help (and to receive their help gratiously without hesitation), or to go for handouts from the state... Most simply put of all,  dealing with friends, or dealing with organizations on a frequent basis, what brings you more happiness and would make you feel like being "nice" to others?

  16. How do you do?!

    I'll comment.

Poor simply refers to money. Every 'poor' nation still has trade, gardens, and similar tradtions and event that allow them to survive.

If someone took your last five dollars you would assume a momentary grudge. If someone took a 'poor' persons last  muskmelon and cinnamon sticks, they would either be momentarily upset, or would try to find how to get more muskmelon and cinnamon sticks, or alternatively more food.

In this instance they would have the experience of needing others assistance to help with providing food while they try to get more, and the friendship and acquaintence related  thereafter.

In the case of your five dollars, it would only be a select few that would maybe provide you with a temporary five dollar loan until you could repay them.

Not even a welfare agency would re issue monetary assistance if say the original money was actually stolen.

So money is a very negative thing.

If a downtown still was a place where everyone knew each other, and not by money, not by gossip, but by friendship, then even a western city could regain its original intended root- sense of community, but also actualization of community.

  17. Who was on crack when they told you that?

  18. well i reject your answer, how about that! americans are generous? americans have the notion to stick their nose in everybody else's business and problems. i would not go to the extant to say the poor nations are more friendly than wealthier nations, but many of the latin american countries and certain middle east countries like egypt are extremely friendly and generous.

  19. I COMPLETELY agree..

well.. speaking of those you Aren't starving..  or have disease..    but  rather those you have just enough money to keep the stomaches full .. and a roof over the head..  in that case  GENERALLY speaking.. it is true.  They are not materialistic and they appreicate life much more.. and in a sense they are much more filled with richness then anyone else who has it money sense. Thats all that is really needed including friends and family.     The US would consider this poor..  but in reality it is not

  20. A bit of over generalization there I would think.

  21. when someone is poor they value every little thing they have.  Some people are really glad and thankful that they woke up to a new day.  One tends to enjoy the very small things and everything he or she receives.  When the smallest of things bring one joy, he or she tends to be nicer to everyone.
