  1. Mesopotamia was not the cradle of civilization, it was a cradle of civilization. The reason why it is so important is that it is the cradle that led to our civilization. The other cradles, such as China, had less influence on us.

  2. They were the first to figure out transporting water to the farms.... hence others flocked to the area.

  3. It's approximately where Noah's Ark landed roughly 4400 years ago in the mountains of Ararat near Turkey..

  4. Paul, you seriously believe Noah's Ark landed there only 4,400 years ago? I am not saying there WASN'T  a terrible flood at some point (many countries do show signs of ancient flooding)but half the worlds ancient monuments were already standing by that time (Pyramids,Stonehenge, etc).I have burials in the fields behind my house that are older than that!

  5. they were smarter simple as that.

  6. It seems like the mountain regions above that area became overpopulated and people moved into a less than desirable area. They had to pull together in order to make it work and it was this cooperation that was a first. People brought ideas from other areas and it all came together in that place and time. Need, the mother of invention. Funny, that place doesn't seem to be a center of cooperation today.

  7. It was originally called this because it was one of the first areas where archaeologists explored.

While Northern Mesopotamia still appears to be the first place on the planet to be had a "neolithic revolution" modern archaeological discoveries are pushing the dates back further and further for other culture domesticating plants and animals and developing large scale urban settlements.

Mesopotamia became "A cradle of civilization" for several reasons.

The factors that seem to apply to most cultures are the existence of several animal and plants that are edible and can be developed easily by humans.

A good water supply. Rainfall or a river or a lake or spring.

Being in a  area  where several trade routes for essential or luxury resouces you cant get in your area cross over.

    There are others.
