It is actually called refractory light.  Another examply of this would be, have you ever looked at a headlight with rain on your windshield, there appears to be a halo of light coming from the source, so in the same way, the rainbow that you see is being illuminated by the moisture in the air and yes they are full circles but you can only see one side because of the horizon.

  3. Rainbows don't have "ends" but are full circled, but we can't see this because the horizon of the earth is in the way. The rainbow is circular because when a raindrop bends light, the light exits the raindrop at a 40-42 degree angle away from the angle it entered the raindrop.
