  1. This may be off the mark with your question but: commodity prices in the present having nothing to do with rationing nor with supply and demand. How else can one explain the increase in prices during a time of recession? Prices of household needs and commodities which impact the consumers standard of living are determined by the bottom line- profits! Large mega- corporations are most likely to measure their financial success not by the individual increments of their holdings but by  the over all return on investments.
