Why the restrictions on fluids on airplanes?

I know the restrictions are for our protections, so I'm more than happy to oblige. I'm just curious as to what is so dangerous about fluids.

  1. Because some people tried to blow up an airplane using explosives that looked like water.


  2. because fluids can easily be mixed to make explosive and/or combustable materials which could blow up the plane
