  1. Most of the shopkeepers are selling products at MRP or below MRP, at all reputed shops. 'Subhiksha" is one most popular example. Only small shops, may be charging small amount extra, as premium and people may be paying that extra amount, only due to shortage, or connivance.

Currently no one pay extra. However, may be for a single milk packet or pouch, paying a Rupee extra or just leaving behind, due to shortage of change or paucity of time. A tip concept is not popular with middle class, house holds, in India.

Regarding, pulses (loose) rates may very due to quality, from shop to shop. Most of the traders, still sell their products, on purchase plus some margin. Thus, their cost and margin may also very from shop to shop.

  3. The Govt.is keeping mum, what the people can ask.In India, when there was Emergency, the shopkeepers sold the products for the price quoted on the product, why that has been changed after some period of years.Everytime an Emergency should be declared, public have the awareness, but who to bell the cat.Openly some body is selling the Gold even at rate, what Govt.has fixed, and  there is an Adv.that one shop is selling moble lesser than the retail outlet, and then why a retail outlet should be thare for that Company, previously foreigners stepped in Indians shoes, now my own brothers.

  4. as far as milk is concerned., they need to be kept in refigerator, their is very low margin of .50 ps, so they need to have some profit for cost of electricity, rent  etc..

i am not justifying it, but as far as other product goes u have a right to refuse and u can also lodge complain to govt authorities or take them to consumer redressal forum..

    u have a right.

  5. When people pay a premium for certain products they pay for the prestige or convenience of buying them in that particular place. Shop keepers sometime charge more to compensate for the higher overhead.
