  1. First of all you shouldn't feel guilty as you personally had nothing to do with it. That is not to say you should stand by their actions.

Second anyone who holds a grudge against the British still is uneducated and foolish.

Third I am Irish and have never met anyone intelligent who hates the British.

  2. First of all My ancestors were the oppressed and also were people that weren't even touched. I don't blame any historical figue, nor will I accept blame. Allowing someone to make you feel guilty for what you ancestors did, is a grave error, and will cause you nothing but heart ache. You weren't there, and had no input on their decisions. Those that try this,  are just after reparations, or money, for what happen to their ancestors. The same reasdon applies as far as I am concern, they wern't there, they didn't suffer, so I see no reason for a claim.

  3. Though the past should never be forgotten, you should never feel guilty of what your ancestors did. Things they did were wrong, but for you to feel guilty of something you had no control over, since you weren't alive back then, is crazy.

Here in America, my ancestors were responsible for slavery and inequality. While I wish those things never happened, I'm not apologizing for what people hundreds of years ago did. I admit what they did was wrong, but that's as far as I go. To this day, they try to make us feel guilty, but that would be like being accused for a murder I did not commit.

British history is full of injustices and human misery, but all countries are. We need to live in the now and build on whatever positives exist in the world today, although those positives are hard to find.

  4.   It is easlier to blame someone else, than to find a solution to current problems.

  5. The same reason that some black Americans hate white people for slavery. Hey, I didn't do it. My ancestors didn't even come to the United States until the 1920s.

The same reason that current generations of Germans feel guilty about the Second World War.
