It would be like us attempting to ensure Alaska doesn't break away from the Union and Russia invading Alaska to stop us.

Georgia didn't invade anyone.  They did send troops to a breakaway region of the country, by that territory was legally part of Georgia, and thus isn't an invasion.

As others mentioned Georgia didn't invade anything, because even the Russians(who in fact invaded Georgia) admit that S.O. is Georgian territory. I'm not sure how anyone can miss that part reading the news.

By definition you can not invade your own land.

Besides, condemning Georgia in this case means to support separatism sponsored by Russia. How would you feel if Russians gave Russian passports to bunch of locals in your own country, arming them before that and later invading you to protect "Russian citizens"? Which country wouldn't try to disarm that group and reintegrate the country?

Let me remind you when Chechnya (which had exactly the same status in Russia as S.O. does in Georgia) declared independence Russia literally drowned that place in blood. For 12+ years they bombed, burned, killed and raped. That somehow was ok for Russians.

Considering that Russia did commit real genocide, unlike the accusations they're throwing at Georgians now, of which they have no proof for 6 days(?!) it is Russia who is and should be condemned.

And today Ossetions openly declare that they already leveled Georgian villages in the region and won't let the refugees back in. That is 100% ethnic cleansing and they're not even pretending anymore.

P.S. Check out the link to see Russian "peacemakers" in action. Robbing the bank in Gori. For the record Russian army controls Gori for last several days, they're not letting anyone in. Few journalists were attacked, wounded and killed around the city by Russians. So, there is no doubt those guys are Russians.

Looting was denied by Russian officials on several occasions stating that Russian army is there to help civilians (which fled the city mainly due to Russian air force bombings for several days including the use of cluster bombs).
