  1. There MAY be a minor rise in incidents over the last year or two (the average human attention span)...  But think about the earthquakes of the 80's-90's, the volcanos in Italy, South America, and the Philippines, floods and wildfires.

I think the KEY is, as another pointed out, the expanded communications network... the Internet, 24 hour cable news, etc.

Just checking the USGS website, there is NO noted increase in earthquakes in the last few years.

  2. because u farted

  3. most would say global warming. just like how come its 15 - 20 degrees hotter before the start of a new season now , when 30 years ago we could thrive on 4 seasons.

  4. I can't remember a time in my life when there weren't a lot of disasters someplace.  Some years it was famine in biafra, earthquakes in Japan, cyclones in bangladesh, others it was elsewhere.  Always something happening somewhere.  Forest fires in the east, forest fires in the west, forest fires up north, mudslides and flooding in california, flooding on the mississippi every few years, bad tornadoes, bad hurricane in florida, huge volcano eruption somewhere (let's say phillipines),  flooding in the mekong, ice storms, killer blizzards.  It never ends.  the earth is a dangerous place.

Life is dangerous.  Be careful.  Haven't you learned that yet?

  5. I don't know of any evidence indicating there are an unusual number of disasters nowadays.  There are a couple of factors that could erroneously suggest conditions are somehow unusual.  Firstly, the human population has grown enormously over the past few centuries, and that means there are more people available for striking down like skittles.  Secondly, there's now a worldwide system of communications.  150 years ago the residents of Chuan probably wouldn't have heard of floods in the Midwest, earthquakes in Osaka, floods in Australia or others!!!

The wider reporting of disasters shouldn't be confused with an increase in frequency.

  6. No doubt there are more disasters taking place now a days. But the concern departments are not showing real interest to find the ways and means to save the people from different types of disasters.I have issued the warning 2 hours before Tsunami struck our coast in the year 2004. Still the connected department is not showing to find the fact how it was possible for me when others failed.Simple logic is my close observation on that day helped me to issue the warning. I am not claiming that I can predict.

  7. OH NOHZ!!!  IT'S GLOBAL WARMING!!!

Seriously though, I think it only seems as if there are more catastrophes happening now due to the global network of news agencies that report anything & everything almost instantaneously.  I don't believe it's global warming, extraction of oil from the ground, mining, or any other industry - or even caused by the human race...

Do humans impact the planet and environment?  Of course.  But that does NOT signify that every time there's a tornado in one part of the United States, or perhaps a slightly colder winter someplace else, that those changes have been caused by humans.  It just means that the tornado hit a population of people, so it became newsworthy...

As for one answer that stated something about temperatures being 10+ degrees warmer at the start of different seasons - that's NOT the case where I live.  It's been an unusually cool spring so far here in Northern Utah, and although the rainfall has been sporadic, we've had enough to where the rangelands are greener than I've seen them in years.
