  1. Both Australia & Africa end up at 34deg. which is in temparate zones.

    Only S.America extends till 55d.

These area are near the seas which moderates the climates.

Hence conditions here (beyond 60d. lat.) and harsh (interior) continental climate are not what are required for Taigas.

Antarctica is a vast sheet of unbroken ice, that has no counterpart in the northern hemisphere. It is not conducive for Taigas.

  2. Taiga soil tends to be young and nutrient-poor; it lacks the deep, organically-enriched profile of other regions.

  3. Because it is too cold for taigas, They like it in India where it id hotter.

  4. If you look at a map of the southern hemisphere you notice 1) there isn't much land at higher latitudes (until inside the Antarctic circle where it is permanently ice covered) and 2) most of that land is fairly close to oceans and thus tempered by marine warming. Tierra del Fuego is at about the same latitude south as tiaga land in parts of Siberia and Canada in the north, but it is much warmer in the southern hemisphere winter than the northern hemisphere tiaga areas are in winter. Temperatures in the Chilean part rarely go much below -2  and average above zero degrees C., while in northern Alberta temps of -30 degrees C are common and the winter average is almost -20 degrees C.

The landscape in Patagonia is molded more by abundance or lack of rainfall than by temperature extremes. SOme of Patagonia is densely forested while drier areas are grass and scrub covered.

  5. I would say no, its not just as cold. Look at the link. The corresponding Southern latitude, to that of the Taiga in the North, hardly has any large land mass. Therefore it is not going to have Continental tempeature patterns.
