Everybody has mistaken my question. I asked specifically for Mumbai... not about other places in India.

  1. kyoki kolkata me fiat nahi chalti.

  2. Raj,

Where R your observation powers , man  ?

All Govt ( central & state) vehicles R invariably Amby cars. They carry red / amber light on top.

Some Jeeps are there  for Police Deptt.

  3. You'll still a lot of government vehicles are ambassador cars.

People have so many options now in car models, types, various international manufacturers have there showrooms in India.. and Tata cars are even a lot more affordable than other cars.. why whould any one go for oldies?

People had ambassadors and fiats cos those were the only options available to them!

  4. I guess its because of following reasons:

    a) Smaller and compact cars which are more fuel efficient and best suited to handle the roads in traffic

    b) also the overall appearance of the car - Ambassador still holds the same design for quite long period.

People are desperate for change!!  Anything which remains same, without upgrades is considered obsolete, these days!
