  1. Good question.  The first heart sound results in the blood going into the lungs rather than into the rest of your body. This is the result of the contraction of the right side of the heart.  This is not felt in the pulse because it is only significant in circulating blood into the lungs and is a relatively low pressure beat.  The second heart sound is the result of contraction of the left side of the heart and pushes the blood into the rest of the body. This is a higher pressure contraction and this is the pulse you feel.


  2. in a normal healthy person, yes, there should be only one pulse beat felt per heart beat.
