Why there is so many wheat staw bunch in the field?

I always see a lot of wheat staw bunch in the filed(like the picture here http://www.curiouscountrycreations.com/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=229&zenid=762998299907a44901ef5073f5e09b1c), who knows they are used for, and why?

  1. Those are called hay bales.  It is way to pack and store animal feed until the next crop can be harvested.  Most times the bales are from rich feed plants like alfalfa.

    However bales are also made of straw and used for other purposes.

    Straw is often used in barns and stalls where grazing animals are kept to absorb sanitary waste and make it easier to clean up. Straw can be used for reducing soil erosion, both as bales and spread over the ground.  At some types of motor-sports events hay bales are used around the outside of corners to reduce impact forces if a vehicle leaves the track.

  2. If it is a wheat feild they are bailing the straw so it can be used for animal bedding stopping erosion and a few other things, not for eating.  It is straw not hay.  Hay is grown specifically for it nutritiona value.
