  1. Old school tennis.

Back when the game was invented, they made it so that you had to win a set by two games, no matter what.  Eventually you'd get sets in the middle of the match going 22-20.  It was in the 1970 US Open that the tie breaker was instituted, 5 years after it was invented.  The tiebreaker eventually was instituted at all events for all sets, except for the Austrailian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon, which uses it for every set but the last.

  2. there just arent any 5th set tie-breaks

  3. It's Wimbledon tradition to not have a tie-break in the fifth set.

  4. In the fifth set, they continue to play until someone gets two points in a row.

    That's how it works.

The other four sets have tiebreaks so they can continue, but the fifth continues.

I liken it to continuous overtimes without a shootout in Stanley Cup finals hockey.

  5. Hi

It's the rules of the game of tennis.

In earlier sets then a tie break would be played, as you said this happened in sets 3 and 4.

However when it comes to the final set then there is no tie break, but the winner has to be two clear games in front in order to win the championship.

    Hope this explains.

  6. because it was the final of a very important tournament, and a tie-briek is part of luck, and in the final, one person cant won the tournament because of luck.

the 3th a 4th sets are less important than the 5th, so in the 5th, thre is no tie-break

  7. A lawn tennis match can only last 5 sets. That is the maximum allowed sets, in the men's game, of course. There can be no tie break in the fifth because they can't play another set, so it's not a tie break. Whoever wins the fifth set wins the match. In th situation we had today, we had both match point for Nadal and set point for Federer at the same time (in the third set). This is because at that point, Federer could have come back and won the game. When it comes to the last point of the fifth set, only one person can win the entire match.

Tennis is a "best out of three then best out of five" game.

  8. Need to win by two games in the fifth.  tiebreakers can be cheep and quick sometimes so they continue to play full games in the fifth set for the men and the third set for women.  In the US Open the do go to a tiebreaker in the fifth set but not in the other grand slams.  It is a more fair way do decide such important sets.   What a match!! Vamos Rafa!!!!!!

  9. There are no 5th set tiebreaks...I'm not sure if that's a Wimbledon thing or in general, but I think it's a Wimbledon thing

  10. oh because it waz a tie
