Why they call Ilocano kuripot?

other pinoys, pag nagtipid, wala lang...krisis kumbaga..pero pag ilocano ang nagtipid, they call them kuripot...

I believe this is just another stereotype for Ilocanos, aside from Ilocanos are "dark skin". Truthfully, we can look at this label being attributed to Ilocanos as something positive. Kuripot can be equated to being practical. Now a days, we all need to learn how to balance between needs and wants. Most Ilocanos are good at prioritizing the more important and valuable things in life. When they buy something, they decide on the basis of what they really need. Furthermore, Ilocanos are very hardworking, so they want to spend their money in to things that really has value for them.
