Why tourists?

Why, as it is winter in Perth, Western Australia, are there so many tourists around lately? I have recently seen and spoken to so many tourists where I live in Perth. AND, they have all been from the US, or from Europe. Seriously, why travel to somewhere where it is winter, when you could be enjoying summer back home? Besides, winter is the worst season. It's cold, unlike summer, autumn and spring...

Where I work it is the same but most I met are backpackers on the way up north it is the perfect time to go up now before it gets to hot and cyclone season hits.

Its cheaper to travel here in our off season and it is their summer holiday season so they have the time off work
