Why truck won't go over 60 mph?

I'm looking at buying a 1995 Ford F-250 from a private seller. I've been told the only issue is that it won't go over 60 mph; he thought this might be due to a "bad catyl. converter". Could that be the problem, or is it probably something else?

  1. yes clogged cats can cause that.

  2. the old trucks didn't go that fast till the 00s like most car  from the 90's top speed was 80 mph

  3. That could be the problem but it should go faster just not as efficient. You can get that tested at most mechanics for probably a small fee. Or you can take it off and not have one. It might be illegal where you live I don't know. But that would be much cheaper if you know how to do it.

  4. I hope it is cheap!

A plugged cat will restrict the exhaust flow vausing the vehicle to run like poo.

It could also be a dirty fuel filter.

  5. Yes either the converter or the fuel filter could cause this.......

  6. Can have the Cat convertor tested at a Exhaust shop for proper flow. A Restriction can cause this problem, also check for engine codes, fuel pressure, and continue from that point.
