  1. Though I do not share the view that hunting is despicable,I really doubt that the queen would make the error of admitting it that she does it for the sake of it,and I doubt that that is the real reason. Many people like to hunt, including me.People have been hunting for ages and not mainly for 'blood feeling'.She isn't the count of Transylvania, who's sadistic actions against his own people scared the invading turks into retreat.Besides,it is tradition.the royal family kills what it eats(but may mount the heads of large animals),and I am all for killing for the sake of eating, not for the sake of killing. The tradition of fox hunting has been banned and the royal family abides by this law.For all those  who are against hunting, let me ask you this;knowing that you aren't all vegans,do you know that the chicken and beef burgers you eat were also once alive and suffered a perhaps more terrible fate than the wild animals that got a chance to live in the forests?Do you know that the bullet of a skilled hunter is more merciful than the electricity and the axe of a butcher?Do you know that the wild hen is more fortunate than its tame cousins that live their short, and chemical fed, lives cooped up in often over-crowded chicken pens?I rest my case.

  2. Hunting is a normal occupation for the English upper classes, especially the royal family who are fond of traditional country pastimes.

Hunting is no more cruel than any other way of killing animals, and less than some, I doubt the animals that are reared on factory farms and sent to the slaughterhouse have a very jolly time of it.  Unless you are a strict vegetarian, objecting to hunting is totally hypocritical.

And in other countries hunting is popular, the French, the Germans, and other Europeans are great hunters, and I understand it goes on quite a lot in America as well.

  3. Its a pastime its what they do, in the same way that they play polo.

I don't see any thing wrong with it, they go out shoot birds eat them, its the same as fishing.

Fox hunting was cruel and that's why it has been outlawed.

  4. bird-brained-bullies

  5. people from every background throughout the world hunt ,it is not something that is a so called upper class thing,so please get off the royals back and think before you open your mouth,

  6. Its the way of the country, something people who have been brought up in the city wont know anything about! Hunting is one of the best ways of conservation, because the young animals escape the hounds where as the old ones are caught, which means that only the good animals are left to breed.

  7. While I rather doubt the first quote, their type of hunting is despicable - even though a few regulations, more honoured in the breach than the observance, have been imposed on hunting with dogs.

Blasting away at driven pheasants is equally despicable - though, as a country girl myself, I can understand the ancient appeal of shooting or fishing for the larder (OK, the freezer now) or the genuine humane shooting of ageing deer - deer 'going back', it's called - or to keep numbers down and ensure adequate food supplies.  A rifle in skilled hands is actually much kinder than nature - but I don't think that's why the royals shoot deer.
