We need to keep up appearances.  We can always sell more bonds and let future generations worry about it.  I do agree though, that we seem to step up to the plate much quicker for other countries disasters.  When Hurricane Katrina came along, THAT was a disaster.  Both natural and Political!

It is human nature to want to help. It does more for the human soul then all the government handouts combined.

What disaster? 5% unemployment. 70% home owner ship. We are much better off than any other country in the world you just can not see through the forrest and have no idea what economics is based on or how it works. This is not your fault you are just reguritating what you hear from the media.

Certainly there appears to be a literacy disaster.

Developed countries set aside money for disaster relief in other countries. Pretty simple really, we all live on the same planet, someone gets ripped to shreds by a cyclone or earthquake or tsunami, we tend to pitch in...if we're allowed.

yes. our country is a TOTAL economic disaster but if there was ever to be a war breaking out, we would have allies(unless we fight with them). when they are deciding to be our allies, they will think "hey, they helped us regain our strength when we were weak when they were in a worse condition! sure, i'd love to be their ally and help you out. its our duty to return the favor" . but i dont think there will be another war anytime soon. while there are no signs of war breaking out, we should repair out own country.

You don't know what disaster is. What's wrong? Couldn't buy a new Ipod this week or cell phone. Shopping at Macy's had to be put off for another week. Think Great Depression and Jimmy Carter's Presidency. Now that was a disaster. How about we drop you in India or anywhere in Africa. Then maybe you'll get a grip.
