Why was'nt Mexico succesful in the olympic qualifying?

they should be in the olympics.what I mean to say is that I would like to have seen them in the olympics.

I guess that if they really should be there then they would be there.

but there not there.where was the error.

can they learn from it.can they learn to stop believing in illusions.

lets not under estimate Mexico because they do have good talent.

lets not over estimate Mexico because their talent is not that good.

Well I am Mexican and I will just be honest and say the players and especially the coach, Hugo Sanchez, got over-confident in the Olympic qualifiers. If they would have played the first two games how they played the 3rd game where they won 4-0 then right now we would all be preparing for the Olympics. We didn't lose the ticket to the Olympics in the final game but against Canada were we managed to tie. I'll quote Monterrey's coach La Volpe, "Mexican players need to learn that the problem is not in their soccer level but in their mentality if one day you're playing in Jamaica, Salvador, then in Sweden it is all the same." What he meant was that the players need to play with the same intensity every single game without taking into consideration who the rival is. So the problem is in the mentality.

Edit: I agree but I think it is our dominance from the

30's to the late 80's in CONCACAF that has become

our biggest enemy. When you have a nation that's has

such a long reign in an area it is hard for its people to

step out of the box and realize everyone around them is

not as "weak" as they used to be and need to start improving

both in football terms and mentality terms. And its a

transition that will take a while to occur and until then

these negative results will keep coming in.

Its very simple.  Like the Mexico fans on this site they are in denial.  They didn't realize how much they have been passed by in the last decade.  They were still living in the past.  By realizing they don't know football and finally admitting it by hiring a white coach they have taken a step in the right direction. The fact is that Mexico isn't good enough anymore.
