  1. There were many things that factored into the ability of Britain to hold out against the Germans.

-They controlled the airspace over Britain, had air superiority.  If one of their pilots had to bail out, he did it over friendly territory, and could be up and flying again within hours if uninjured.

-Thanks to the efforts of those working at Bletchley Park, they knew what the Germans were doing almost before they did.

-Lend-Lease provided critically needed materials for the British to continue the fight.

-The British Fleet had naval superiority, and while they couldn't completely eliminate the threat posed by the Kriegsmarine and their U-Boats, they were able to get enough supplies through to continue the fight.

-British Electronic Countermeasures against German navigation signals helped to reduce the effectiveness of their bombing campaign.

  2. There's an ocean between Britian and Europe and then the Americans joined the war.

  3. Although only 22miles from Calais. The Royal Navy contained the German fleet. So controlling the sea. Also the invention of radar, and a control network, that could intercept bombers. To the end of the war V2 rocket were fired at the South of England. There was no defence to them. Only stopping when the launch site was over run.

  4. Because they had a powerful economy, well developed industry, they were an island and they had a good navy. It was extremely difficult for anyone to land troops on a heavily fortified island.

"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender." - W. Churchill

  5. Because it was a island, and it was one of the most powerful countries in europe on the allies side at the time.

  6. Hitler, at first, did not want to invade Britain. After the battle of France, he assumed the British would sue for peace. It took some time before he realized Britain would not surrender, which gave the British time to strengthen their defenses and recover their losses in France.

During the battle of Britain, the Luftwaffe made some fatal mistakes. They did not attack the British radar system, which provided an early warning of a German attack. Also, the Luftwaffe's targets were too varied. Instead of concentrating on one target (such as the radar system) they would take a long list of different targets (like the aircraft industry and naval ports,), which produced little results in the short term.

Then there was the problem of German aircraft fighting over Britain. The fighters would face fuel problems and could not sustain a dogfight for too long. Plus, if a German pilot was shot down and survived, he would be far away from help and would most likely become a POW, while a downed British pilot could be rescued and fight again.

Finally, the British Navy was superior to the German Navy. Hitler never really understood naval power, which is why the German Navy was unable to compete against the Royal Navy.

  7. Well... we didn't. We suffered heavy bombings from the Luftwaffe (airforce) as far inland as Coventry (look on Google maps).

Britain gave the Germans a bloody nose during the dog fights over the English Channel (read up on "Battle of Britain").

If you mean "why didn't Germany invade the UK" well... they had plans for it but delayed them because of the problems they were having on the Eastern front (against Russia), so they didn't have the resources ready on time. Things just didn't happen according to Germany's plans.

When Churchill managed to convince America to donate food and guns it bought enough time for it to hold out on other fronts (North Africa, Egypt & Mediteranean) so that when America came the allies could plan for D-Day because of the aid from America and help from its soldiers.

  8. Water and American aid as Mr Churchill said about American aid ''the most generous act of any nation in history '' But today its ''you made money off us'' ''you only come in when you know we would win''

    I live with them

  9. 1 The USA supplied them with Arms, Ammo, Oil, and food.

Britian also had many programs of civil defense and did a very good job of protecting it's civilians.

Ultimately n**i Germany was unable to bomb them into totall submission or even to soften them enough to undertake an amphibious invasion.

God bless our British brothers and allies, they did a great job defending a tiny island nation when surrounded by n**i aggresion.
