I keep reading that the climate of britain (and as far as i know the rest of northern europe) was warmer 3000 years ago than it is today. Was there any specific reason for this or was it just random fluctuations in temperature? How much warmer was it back then? (naming an area with a present day similar climate would be very helpful)

  1. its called history , the earth has gone through drastic changes, man or no man being here.

and example first hand is Greenland and Siberia

  2. Source please !!!

    - Publication

    - Name

    - Author

    - Figures

    - Edition /date

    - Primary information source used.

  3. Because Global Climate is variable.  It is always changing and always will be changing.

You should also ask the alarmists why there is global warming on mercury, venus, and mars (must be those d**n SUVs).

  4. It was more than 3000 years ago and in case you missed it, not only did they re-write the MWP out of the climate history (or downplayed it to make it look slightly cooler than today), they also re-wrote the Holocene Maximum out of the climate history.

But they want us to believe them about the climate in the future.

I understand why they want a Hockey Stick chart, to make it look like today's tempertures are "unprecedented" thus dangerous.

But just re-writing history without explaining a SINGLE one of the COUNTLESS events around the world that occurred during warmer periods that can't occur today because it's not warm enough - - why can't they see that that takes critically-thinking people and MAKES skeptics out of them?

  5. I remember back 3,000 years ago very well.  The summer and winter seemed very much like today. You young whipper snappers are getting all excited over nothing...It wasnt called great britian back then... The Eygptians got all stired up as well, went out and built  bihs stone things...

  6. I have heard of this from many sources, though I don't remember where aside from one being my elementary school french teacher when we were studying the vikings. They do actually look back at these past climates to see what some of the effects of global warming might be for us in the future, as well as to look at the causes of these events, be they cooler or warmer. There is a specific name used to refer to this warm period, but I'm afraid I don't remember what it is.

  7. Polar shifting

    Every one knows that

there are even fossils of tropical plants in Antarctica.and  in Britain

why not go back  millions of years and you can talk about a dessert planet or a totally tropical one.

Or a time the atmosphere was 80 % carbon dioxide

all of that is irrelevant to todays conditions.

    stuff like this http://earthissues.multiply.com/photos/a...

    will have its effects

so does deforestation, half of the planets forests have gone in the last 300 years and half of the rain forests in the last 50.

and pollution of water ,soil and air

However much people wish it would not be so ,we DO AND have affected this planet by our existance.

  8. Britain, indeed the entire planet, was a bit warmer then than today because of..let me digress...

Greenland was used as farmland in the span of recorded history.

..Back to the answer, the planet was warmer because of global warming caused by .....

    THE SUN!

    Imagine that!

International Socialists like Gore are creating a false hysteria in order to scare the masses to give up freedom and to submit to more government control, more “international” government control.  Wake up, America!  He who controls energy controls the world.

As Margaret Thatcher put it: global warming is proving to be “a marvelous excuse for international socialism.”

No doubt, despite his fear that the North Pole ice caps will be totally melted in five years, Gore and his chums all flew to Davos in their private jets.

Environmental responsibility is not an issue to be taken lightly. If you are a person of faith you believe that God gave man dominion over all the earth and that it would be an affront against the Almighty not to take that responsibility seriously.

If you were ever a Boy Scout or a Girl Scout... if you hunt, fish, hike, or camp out... if you live in the country or have ever been awed or humbled by the great natural beauty of America... you understand the vital importance of being a good steward of God's creation.

But the sad truth is that Global Warming has little to do with good stewardship and is nothing more than a myth being advanced not just by eco-radicals but also by a biased media, special interests that seek to diminish the sovereignty of the United States, and politicians who view advancing this myth as an opportunity to increase taxes on American businesses and consumers.

Global Warming as pushed by Al Gore and the UN isn't science; it is propaganda masquerading as science to push the Left's favorite causes.

The Left is using the MYTH of Global Warming as an excuse to raise taxes on American families, bash business, expand government regulation and revive their discredited socialist ideology.

New taxes, higher taxes, lost jobs, and a diminishing standard of living in pursuit of a myth are not the American way to meet a challenge.

  9. I think this ties in with the "Holocene Climate Optimum".

    See:

  10. i've surely not read that.

if you remember where, tell me.

however, britian and N. Europe are a special case.

much of the warming is the result of the Gulf Stream.

if it was stronger 3000 years ago, then it would be completely logical for them to be warmer.

in fact, the relation is sufficiently strong, that, if there is reliable proof that britian was warmer, that would, in all likihood, be sufficient evidence to show that the Gulf stream was stronger.

  11. Well, Each year the universe is expanding, the galaxies stretch, and the planets shift, earth is moving away from the sun.

So, earth was closer to the sun= hotter earth, however by todays standards, with global warming, heating the planet itself, due to peoples foolishness (well i am including my self a bit here) we are heating the planet up, and using up earths supplies that take millions of years to make, such as coal, natural gas, etc etc.

  12. I think that Greenland warmed at the same time. That is the reason for the name.

  13. Sure, you see back then they used a lot of horses.  And well horses are a lot like cows, the eat, the p**p and well they pass gas.  And since Britin is the 'home turf' of what became them rotten dirty americans, its all bushes fault.

  14. I recall reading that the Romans grew grapes for wine in England - that was 2000 years ago.  Since then we've had a "Mini-Ice Age"  which changed Europe quite a lot.  And who knows why?  Some people have thought it was a volcano going off which screened out sunlight making the ground colder.

I imagine all this can be traced in ice cores from Greenland and Iceland.  They even record the lead pollution which began with the Roman use of lead.

The above link shows the derived temperatures of the Sargasso Sea in the last 3000 years.  There should be a relationship in global temperatures and more directly temperatures of Great Britain.  Climates change for various reasons.  The reasons are extremely complex and may seem random.  There are numerous solar cycles, and the Milankovitch cycle that determines how much solar radiation (as well as cosmic rays) we get.  We came out of the last period of glaciation 8000 years ago or so and generally the temp has warmed since then.  There were cooler and warmer periods such as the warm period 3000 years ago and the little ice age a few hundred years ago.
